I grew up in a house so old it had medieval oyster shells pressed into the mortar of its stone plinth walls and blackened beams from centuries of fire smoke.  I never really got my head around the floorplan and still haven’t to this day … the layout just kind of emerged through time.

The reason I don’t recreate those old style buildings or interiors is because you can’t recreate time. There’s more to them than their shapes and materials and you can’t write history in the present so I don’t try. I like the calmness of modern architecture and the way it can frame, hide within or dance in and out of an old building. It’s the honest and respectful contrast between the two that allows them both to speak with their own voices. And when neither shouts over the other, I’m generally happy with the design.

I share what I do because I love what I do and because I think architectural design is too valuable not to be widely available.  Everyone benefits from a good quality built environment and by quality I don’t just mean the technical and sustainability credentials, as essential as they are.

My passion in architecture is in seeking out the emotional experiences it can cultivate and in listening to the human and more-than-human stories that shape and are shaped by it.  I work with small, unusual or awkward spaces as they often have overlooked value, and I aim to follow the materials and forms that I encounter along the way.

By opening up my services to clients worldwide and offering affordable services like hourly rate 1:1 Consultations and more detailed Concept Design proposals, I hope to make well considered, high-end, bespoke architecture accessible for all.
